The visionary that Bush is ....

The most important thing is for us to find Osama bin Laden. It is our number one priority and we will not rest until we find him.
-- President George W. Bush, September 13, 2001.
I don't know where he [Osama] is and I really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority.
-- President George W. Bush, May 13, 2002.
Gosh, I just don't think I ever said I'm not worried about Osama bin Laden. It's kind of one of those exaggerations.
-- President George W. Bush, October, 13, 2004

One more while he was at it:
Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.
-- President George W. Bush, August 5, 2004.

An indication of the elections to come?

An excerpt from a newspiece in ekantipur:

"Bhuwan Krishna Shrestha, who filed his candidature for the post of mayor in Nepalgunj Municipality, decided to withdraw his candidacy as his wife reached the election office, weeping. He is the district president of Rastrabadi Milan Kendra.

Zonal Administrator Min Bahadur Pal and Chief District Officer of Nepalgunj, Binod Adhikari, were very frantic throughout the day. They were busy searching for possible candidates.

Then Pal called an emergency meeting of royalists and forced three royalists to file their candidacy. The BBC Nepali Service reported that police escorted aspiring candidates to the election office."

Monkey Business

This article made me remember the scence in the temple complex in Tripureswor. A group of monkeys have called the temple their home, and day after day I used to see them harassing passers-by, specially if they are visibly carrying fruits or other eatables. In recent years I had seen the monkey clan grow larger and more menacing. And there were always small groups of people standing by and wathing the antics of the monkeys.
Just one of the small things in life that find a place in your brain forever. Are these the things that make life colorful?

On Aerial Photos

I had seen Remote Controlled planes in movies and on TV, but I always thought they would be damn expensive. One profeeosr mentioned that they are these days not so expensive and I looked into it ........ to my amazement I found they can be purchased for less than 100$. There's one here http://www.rctoys.com/vextreme.php that comes with a video camera attached, for around 300$. If the plane could carry a little more payload, then it could be equipped with a GPS ... that would make an ideal flying vehicle for taking aerial photos, surveying, mapping, security etc etc. man ....... the possibilities seem immense.
The one that i like the most however is this one http://www.rctoys.com/draganflyerxpro.php. This would be a very stable flying vehicle also able to carry some extra payload of sensing equipments, but at 5000$ it would be flying way up beyond my reach.

The Best Storage Mediums ......... Magnetic Tapes????

I would have thought DVDs would be the best storage mediums around, but there seem to be other considerations that need to be made, and according to one 'expert' the good old tapes are the best mediums for long-term storage.

World's Second Largest Eye Hospital ........ in Nepal

Just read an article about an eye hospital in Nepal, that is the second largest in the world right now. It also gets patients from our neighboring India .......... and the hospital is not in the capital, neither in Pokhara, or Brigunj or any other well known places. It's in Lahan, nestled somewhere in the Terai.
Lucky me I have heard about Lahan before, as one of my good friends during BE is from there.

Of Narnia and King Kong

I watched The Chronicles of Narnia and King Kong recently. I was expecting Narnia to be very good......... maybe because I had read the book. But the movie was not upto my expextations, the CG was bad, only the talking lion was good enough, the background landscapes seem forcibly inserted.
However I hand't expected much from King Kong and it turned out to be much better than i thought ......... with excellent CG work , specially the dinosaurs and the huge insects.
